Thesis
A thesis is an idea or theory that is expressed as a statement and is discussed in a logical way. A thesis is a long piece of writing based on your own ideas and research that you do as part of a university degree,especially a higher degree such as a PhD.
Dissertation
A dissertation is a research project completed as part of an undergraduate or postgraduate degree. Typically, a dissertation allows students present their findings in response to a question or proposition that they choose themselves.
Essay
Research Essay is a type of essay that makes the writer analyze the works of others and compare their ideas and thoughts with his own. Research essay is a clearly-written and well organized essay that involves researching source material and synthesizing what you learn from it with your own ideas.
Assignment
Assignments usually take the form of written pieces of work that are set by your course tutors. They also usually contribute towards your final course mark or grade. You will also practise interpreting some essay titles that tutors in different subject areas might give to their students.
Case study
A successful case study analyses a real life situation where existing problems need to be solved. It should relate the theory to a practical situation; for example, apply the ideas and knowledge discussed in the coursework to the practical situation at hand in the case study.
Home work
Homework, or a homework assignment, is a set of tasks assigned to students by their teachers to be completed outside the class.
Course work
Course work is work that students do during a course, rather than in exams, especially work that counts towards a student’s final grade. Some 20 per cent of marks are awarded for coursework.
Research Paper
A research paper is a piece of academic writing that provides analysis, interpretation, and argument based on in-depth independent research.
Proofreading
Proofreading is the final stage of checking a text before it is published or shared. It focuses on correcting minor errors and inconsistencies (for example, in punctuation and capitalization). Proofreaders often also check for formatting issues, especially in print publishing.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is a common problem, primarily among students. Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines plagiarism as follows: Definition “To steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one’s own: to use (another’s production) without crediting the source”
